Spring 2025 Community Impact Scholarship Winner

Attorney Jerry Andrews is proud to announce that he has selected the most recent winner of the biannual Community Impact Scholarship. Each semester, Attorney Andrews provides $2,500 in funding to a deserving college student who has gone above and beyond for their community while simultaneously excelling academically. The Spring 2025 scholarship has been awarded to high school senior Sydney Garber.

Sydney Garber is an incoming freshman at Claremont McKenna College. She has a 4.0 GPA and is the pitcher for her high school softball team. While she has continued to succeed throughout school, Sydney has noticed the effects of the significant pressure she faces, and she has made an effort to make a difference for herself and others. Through her organization, The Iron Butterfly, Sydney has helped to improve mental health of athletes in women’s sports by making resources more accessible to student-athletes like herself. She originally founded the organization in May 2024, and she has been helping other students via the organization’s website, social media, blogs, and speaking engagements. We are thrilled to provide Sydney with this award and look forward to all she will accomplish in her college career.

Attorney Jerry Andrews has offered the Community Impact Scholarship since 2022, and he has selected a total of eight winners over the last three years. Mr. Andrews has a deep appreciation of the immense value that students and others contribute to their communities. He offers the scholarship in an effort to recognize the hard work students put in to make a difference. To be eligible for the Community Impact Scholarship, students must be actively involved in community service, exhibit strong leadership qualities, maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and be enrolled in college as an undergraduate student. As a bright young woman who is passionate about supporting youth sports, Ms. Harrington has gone above and beyond to improve the lives of kids in her community by enabling financially challenged kids to play a variety of sports using free equipment gathered in her “Play it Forward” campaign.

Five years and counting after founding "Play It Forward," a youth sports equipment donation initiative, Ms. Harrington has collected over 6,600 pieces of equipment, equipping more than 560 youth athletes across eight different communities, all to help more kids than ever before benefit from the physical and psychological benefits of playing sports. As an undergraduate computer science student, Ms. Harrington seeks to wield her education as a force for good. With her sense of purpose and her unwavering dedication to the betterment of her community, she continues to set an outstanding example for others looking to get involved in their communities.

This scholarship runs each semester and is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2024 semester. At a generous sum of $2,500, the law firm of Jerry D. Andrews, P.C., hopes this scholarship can provide financial assistance to an undergraduate student while affording them an excellent opportunity to impact their community positively.

Our firm created the Community Impact Scholarship to provide a high achieving student passionate about giving back to their community with financial backing as they work to obtain their undergraduate degree. December is here, which means the “season of giving” is officially upon us, and many communities across the nation are in dire need of support. The winner of the Community Impact Scholarship for the Spring 2024 semester will be announced on March 13, 2024, with applications due by February 13, 2024. Describe ways in which community service can enhance educational experiences, both for volunteers and those they serve,” in a five- or less-minute video or an essay of 1,000 words.

Attorney Andrews has created the Community Impact Scholarship to support deserving college students with a demonstrated history of serving our community through volunteerism. Beginning in the fall of 2022, the firm will proudly offer two scholarships of $2,500 each to college students who have dedicated substantial time and effort to volunteer work and made a difference in their community. To qualify for the Community Impact Scholarship, students must be actively involved in volunteering to serve their community and demonstrate strong leadership skills.

Qualified students may apply by submitting either a video or an essay responding to the following prompt: “Why is it so important to volunteer within your community? Which efforts make the biggest difference within a community? How has the time you have dedicated to community service helped you to develop your own skills and grow as an individual?”

Applications from students who meet the eligibility requirements and provide all requested information will be judged based on how thoroughly and creatively they respond to the prompt in an organized manner and how well the essay or video demonstrates dedication to community service and leadership skill.
